FEAM President, Prof. Ferry Breedveld, was interviewed by Euronews to discuss the potential global consequences of changes in US health policy following the recent elections. President-elect Donald Trump’s announcement that Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a vaccine skeptic and advocate for sweeping reforms, will lead an overhaul of the CDC and FDA has sparked widespread concern.
Highlighting the importance of international collaboration, Prof. Ferry Breedveld stated:
“To be effective and prepared for the next pandemic, which will certainly come, you need measuring stations all over the globe that collaborate very closely, and certainly the US is an important player.”
The CDC and FDA play a critical role in global health efforts, from pandemic preparedness to ensuring vaccine safety. Any disruption to their leadership or priorities could hinder international disease surveillance and complicate the global response to emerging health threats.
Prof. Breedveld’s insights underscore the urgent need for Europe and the rest of the world to remain proactive, strengthening regional health systems and fostering global partnerships to mitigate potential challenges.
