FEAM Annual Key Lecture 2025 “AI and Cybersecurity in Healthcare: Shaping Tomorrow’s Priorities

The Federation of European Academies of Medicine (FEAM) is pleased to announce its Annual Key Lecture 2025, titled AI and Cybersecurity in Healthcare: Shaping Tomorrow’s Priorities. This high-level event will bring together leading experts and policymakers to explore how artificial intelligence is reshaping healthcare—particularly in medical imaging—while addressing the urgent need for robust cybersecurity and ethical governance in the context of the European Health Data Space (EHDS).

The event will take place on 25 November 2025 at the Palais des Académies in Brussels and will be structured in three main parts:

Keynote Lecture

AI and Radiology: Paving the New Horizons in Medical Innovation
Prof. Luis Martí-Bonmatí, Director of the Medical Imaging Department at La Fe University and Polytechnic Hospital (Valencia, Spain), and Professor of Radiology at the University of Valencia.

A leading voice in the field of diagnostic imaging, Prof. Martí-Bonmatí has pioneered research in radiomics, imaging biomarkers, and the integration of AI tools into radiological workflows. His keynote will explore the ways in which AI is revolutionising radiology—from enhancing diagnostic accuracy to enabling personalised and predictive care—and the implications for clinical validation and systemic adoption across European health systems.

Panel Discussion

From Data to Care: Securing Trust in the European Health Data Space

This expert panel will delve into the challenges and opportunities of implementing AI under the evolving European Health Data Space, with a particular focus on ensuring public trust, cybersecurity safeguards, and alignment with ethical and regulatory frameworks.

Meet the Panellists:

  • Katarina Vujovic, Health Research Officer, Directorate for Employment, Labour and Social Affairs, OECD.
Katarina brings deep insights from international comparative health policy and will reflect on the OECD’s work in digital health transformation and data governance.
  • Dr. Timothy Yeung, Research Fellow, CEPS.
Timothy leads CEPS’ work on the European Health Data Space and will share insights into regulatory developments, stakeholder engagement, and ethical considerations in health data policy.
  • Katleen Janssens, Director of the Belgian Health Data Agency. With a background in data-driven public policy and healthcare governance, Katleen brings practical experience in managing health data at both hospital and national level. She will share insights on turning health data into actionable value while balancing innovation, security, and trust within the context of the European Health Data Space.
  • Sofia Peltola  Specialist in International Health Projects at the Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra. She has worked on major European initiatives such as TEHDAS2 and VALO, focused on streamlining the secondary use of health data. With previous experience at Findata and a strong international background, she brings valuable expertise in cross-border cooperation and project coordination.

Closing Symposium

Data Protection Solutions: Practical Approaches for Trustworthy AI in Healthcare
In collaboration with the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, this session will explore the practical implementation of privacy-preserving technologies and proactive compliance strategies under current and upcoming EU regulations.

  • Prof. Pancras Hogendoorn Professor of Pathology at Leiden University Medical Center and guest professor at Oxford University and the Free University of Brussels. He is internationally recognised for his work on the molecular diagnosis of bone and soft-tissue tumours and has contributed to the WHO classification of these diseases. His longstanding focus on diagnostic accuracy, data integrity, and standardisation informs current approaches to privacy-preserving technologies and regulatory compliance in healthcare.
