New Topic: Transforming the Future of Ageing

As an initiative from SAPEA (Science Advice for Policy by European Academies), the Scientific Advice Mechanism is taking up the task of providing science advice to the European Commission on the future of ageing.

This will take account of the current international and European policy context and the available scientific evidence, to address the question of what policies at the EU level could support the Member States in achieving inclusive, fair and sustainable systems of health and social care and promote the taking up of innovation for ageing societies. Common key challenges for the European Union and Member States include adjusting to an ageing and shrinking workforce, while achieving access to high quality healthcare for all and ensuring the financial viability of healthcare systems.

SAPEA has set up a Working Group with experts from across Europe, and will produce an Evidence Review Report with policy options.

SAPEA has also issued an open call for evidence on the topic. Find out more here.

The scoping paper was adopted by the Group of Chief Scientific Advisors on 27 April 2018, and is available here.

The scientific advice on this topic is expected to be delivered by April 2019.
