About
The Science and Education Standing Committee supports FEAM’s mission by identifying and advising on scientific and academic priorities relevant to its work. It acts as a space for strategic reflection, where representatives from member academies provide expert guidance on topics at the intersection of science, medicine, and education.
The Committee contributes to the definition of FEAM’s thematic priorities and helps shape the scientific dimension of the organisation’s activities, including its project development and policy engagement. It also offers a forum for discussing cross-cutting academic issues and fostering inter-academy collaboration on matters such as research training, scientific advice, and health education.
The Committee is co-chaired by two Board Members: Professor Ranieri Guerra, former Assistant Director-General at the World Health Organization and a public health expert with decades of experience in national and international health systems, and Professor Catherine Barthélémy, a neuropsychiatrist and emeritus professor of medicine at the University of Tours, widely recognised for her work in developmental neuroscience and autism.
Their leadership brings together global public health expertise and academic excellence, ensuring that FEAM’s scientific work remains relevant, credible, and impactful.
The Committee’s work complements that of FEAM’s other standing committees—on Strategy and Policy, and on the FEAM European Biomedical Policy Forum—ensuring scientific rigor and academic coherence across FEAM’s initiatives.
