“Immunisation is one of the most important parts of preventive medicine not just in childhood but through all ages. Infections were the initial prime aim and we are now entering the age of preventing cancer by vaccination. In order to achieve community protection target rates of vaccination must be achieved. The biggest threat currently, which has resulted in the deaths of children in developed countries, is vaccine refusal fuelled by the anti-vax campaign. A concerted effort to educate and convince the public of the importance of vaccination, both for the individual and the community, is urgently required”
